Since India’s Got Latent controversy, Samay Raina did his level best to save his public image. His personal life was also in shambles, and with his latest comedy special, he won the hearts of everyone out there. The stand-up comedian broke down what had really happened behind the scenes.

It wasn’t easy for him, especially with all the allegations that came his way. Things were so bad that he feared filing for bankruptcy, and he also compared himself to Amitabh Bachchan.

During an interview with Dostcast, Samay Raina spoke about how bad his situation had gotten after India’s Got Latent’s controversy. Ranveer Allahbadia’s joke about parents had caught so much fire that not only were FIRs filed against the people involved, but the show was also pulled down. The comedian admitted that things had gotten very bad very quickly.

“I lost all the upcoming episodes because everyone was scared and didn’t want their episode to be uploaded. I also lost the sponsors for those episodes. I had already received their payments and invested them in fixed deposits. I had to break those FDs and return the money. I was in a mess.”

Brand deals and sponsorships were pulling out so as not to be associated with him or any comedian linked to the show. This left him with a lot of people to pay back and not enough money to get out of debt.

“I had several projects lined up and had even shot for ads, but they asked for their money back. I had also signed a deal with BookMyShow, where they had given me an advance for the entire tour, and all that money was already invested. I was extremely scared. At that time, I didn’t know what I would do. I knew no brand would come on board. My biggest fear was that I would go broke and fall into debt, like what happened with Amitabh Bachchan.”

He genuinely thought his situation might become like Amitabh Bachchan's. The legendary actor had started his own company in the 1990s, the Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL), and because it did not work out, he was left with debts worth ₹90 crores and far too many legal cases on his back.

Luckily, both Raina and Bachchan were able to get out of their situation and continued to do well for themselves. Raina’s comeback with his latest comedy special also promised an upcoming season of India’s Got Latent in the works.
