Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has added a fun twist to his team’s aggressive batting approach by introducing a friendly six-hitting contest within the squad—offering his own bat as the prize.

Iyer revealed that the challenge, which involves players like Cooper Connolly and Priyansh Arya, is aimed at keeping the atmosphere lively while encouraging fearless stroke play. “We thought, why not compete for who hits the most sixes this IPL? And the prize is going to be my bat,” he said with a smile.

The team’s explosive batting was on full display against Lucknow Super Giants, where Punjab Kings smashed a remarkable 21 sixes. Out of their massive total of 254 runs, 126 came purely from shots clearing the boundary, underlining their dominance.

Arya led the six-hitting charge with nine maximums, while Connolly hammered seven. Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh added two sixes each, and Nehal Wadhera chipped in with one.

According to Iyer, the initiative reflects the team’s larger philosophy of giving players the freedom to express themselves at the crease. Instead of rigid instructions, the management prefers to trust individual instincts and natural playing styles.

He believes this relaxed yet competitive environment has played a key role in the team’s strong batting performances, particularly in the top and middle order. According to Iyer, such internal challenges not only boost confidence but also strengthen team bonding while maintaining focus on delivering results on the field.
