New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a change to India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. All-rounder Shivam Dube has been drafted into the squad after Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out because of a quadriceps injury.

Reddy picked up the injury during the third ODI against Afghanistan and has not recovered in time for the England series. The 23-year-old had already missed India’s recent T20I assignments against Ireland and England and will now remain unavailable for the ODI leg as well.

The three-match series is scheduled to begin on July 14 and conclude on July 19. Though Reddy has a golden opportunity to cement his position in the absence of Hardik Pandya.

Dube gets another ODI opportunity

Dube’s inclusion gives him another chance to establish himself in India’s ODI side. Although he has remained a regular member of the T20I squad, opportunities in the 50-over format have been limited in recent years.

The all-rounder now returns to the ODI setup at an important time with Pandya also unavailable because of injury. With India looking to strengthen their all-round options, Dube will have the chance to make a strong impression if he gets an opportunity during the series.

India will be led by Shubman Gill, while Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain. Experienced players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah also feature in the squad.

Reddy continues recovery

Reddy’s absence is another setback after an impressive rise in international cricket. The young all-rounder was expected to play a bigger role in India’s ODI plans, especially with Pandya sidelined.

The reports suggest the selectors have decided not to rush his return, allowing him additional time to complete his rehabilitation. His absence from India’s squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe T20I series further indicates that the management wants him to recover fully before returning to competitive cricket.

Apart from Dube replacing Reddy, there are no other changes to India’s squad for the England ODIs. The selectors have retained the core group as India prepare for an important three-match series, with Dube now looking to make the most of his return to the 50-over format.

India squad for England ODIs: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Shivam Dube.
