New Delhi: Alexander Zverev ended the fairytale run of British wild card Arthur Fery with a dominating performance on Friday, July 10. The German defeated the 23-year-old 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4 to reach the first-ever Wimbledon final. Zverev will have an opportunity to win consecutive Grand Slam trophies after his French Open success.
With this win, Zverev became just the third German man to qualify for the Wimbledon final, joining three-time winner Boris Becker and 1991 champion Michael Stich. He ended his long wait for a Grand Slam title at Roland Garros last month and has played with complete freedom through his campaign at Wimbledon. He has dropped just two sets in his six matches in The Championships and has now won his last 13 matches at Grand Slams.

Zverev delivered a composed and commanding performance in the semifinal match, capitalising on Arthur Fery’s errors in the first-set tie-break to take the lead. The German then stepped up his intensity in the second and third sets. Zverev heavily relied on his powerful first serve to control the rallies and dominate the match.
He also consistently applied pressure with deep returns, which unsettled the British wild card. Despite losing the match, Fery was warmly applauded by the crowd as he left Centre Court.
