Patna: Fast bowlers Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar, who made Bihar’s name bright in Indian cricket, have recently been appointed as DSPs by the Bihar government. Both have been given government jobs under the state’s sports policy. However, now there are reports of an important condition attached to his job. Both the cricketers will have to be associated with cricket as active players for the next five years to continue their government service. Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar were appointed as DSPs in July 2026 under the Bihar government’s policy of giving government jobs to sportspersons.
The bond has to be paid for five years
According to the report, the Bihar Home Department has set special conditions regarding the government appointment of players. Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar will have to give a bond of five years. As per this bond, he has to continue to participate in tournaments and competitive cricket as an active cricketer for the next five years.
It is the intention of the government that the players who get government jobs for special achievement in the field of sports do not move away from the sport immediately after getting the job and continue to play for the state and the country.
If the condition is not complied with, the job is at risk
If the conditions stipulated in the bond are not followed, their government jobs may also be at risk. That is, if a player ceases to participate in competitions as an active player within a specified period or sever his active association with the game, the government can take action regarding his appointment.
This rule is not limited to Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar but may also be important for other sportspersons who get government posts on the basis of sporting achievements.
Appointment under ‘Bring a medal, get a job’ policy
The Bihar government has launched the ‘Bring a medal, get a job’ policy to encourage talented sportspersons. Under this scheme, there is a provision of direct recruitment to government posts including DSP, Sub-Inspector, on the basis of their merits, without competitive examination, to the players who have achieved success at the national and international level.
Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar have also been appointed as DSPs under the same policy. Both of them termed this initiative of the government as encouraging for the young players.
Akashdeep’s journey from struggle to Team India
Belonging to Bihar, Akashdeep made his international cricket debut for India in the Ranchi Test against England in the year 2024. He has represented the Indian Test team as a fast bowler.
Akashdeep’s journey to cricket has not been easy. After moving up from the domestic level and playing domestic cricket for Bengal, he completed his journey to the IPL and then the Indian team. In view of his success Bihar Government has honored him by giving him the post of DSP.
Mukesh Kumar has also played in all three formats
Mukesh Kumar has also been part of the Indian fast bowling department. He started representing India at the international level during the 2023 West Indies tour. After consistently performing well in domestic cricket and IPL, he got an opportunity in Team India.
While appointing Mukesh as DSP, the Bihar government said that such appointments will also encourage other young players from the state to pursue a career in sports.
Now the responsibility of both cricket and government job
After getting the post of DSP, the situation has now become interesting for Akashdeep and Mukesh Kumar. On one hand, he has to keep his position strong in Indian cricket, on the other hand, he has to follow the conditions attached to the government job.
That means for the next five years, cricket will not only be a career for both of them, but also an important responsibility attached to the job of DSP.
