Amidst heavy rains in Soraon area of Prayagraj, villagers saw a huge crocodile moving towards the population near Shekhpur Sarai. The forest department launched a rescue operation, but the crocodile was not found. The administration asked to remain alert.
Prayagraj: Amidst the torrential rains, a huge crocodile was seen moving towards the population from the overflowing drain in Shekhpur Sarai area of Soraon. Seeing the crocodile, panic spread among the villagers and children and elderly people were secured in their homes. On receiving the information, the Forest Department team reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation in the surrounding waterlogged areas, but the crocodile could not be found.
Crocodile moved towards the population from the overflowing drain
Due to continuous torrential rains in Soraon area of Prayagraj, an atmosphere of fear was created among the villagers due to the arrival of aquatic animals towards the populated area. Villagers saw a giant crocodile swimming in the water near the drain bridge in Shekhpur Sarai area.
It was told that due to continuous rain the water level of the local drain has increased significantly. During this time the villagers noticed the crocodile. He came to the bank of the drain with the help of the rising water and slowly started moving in the direction of the population.
The news of crocodile sighting quickly spread throughout the village. After this there was chaos among the people. As a precaution, villagers advised children and the elderly to stay indoors.
Forest department started rescue operation
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the villagers informed Gangapar District President Nirmala Paswan. He immediately informed the District Magistrate about the incident. After this, on the instructions of the District Magistrate, the Forest Department team reached the spot.
Forest department officials started searching for the crocodile in the drain and surrounding waterlogged areas. The team conducted intensive investigation and inspection at possible places, so that the crocodile could be located and rescued safely.
However, despite a lot of efforts, the forest department team could not find any trace of the crocodile.
Possibility of going towards river with strong current
Forest officer Divya Mishra said that the team conducted an intensive checking campaign in the entire area, but the crocodile was not found. Officials expressed the possibility that he might have gone towards the river due to the strong current of the swollen drain.
Despite the crocodile not being detected, the administration has advised the villagers to remain alert. People have been asked to avoid going near drains and waterlogged areas.
In view of the continuous rain and increased water level, the administration is keeping an eye on the situation. Villagers, especially children and the elderly, have been instructed to keep them away from waterlogged places.
