Nagoya, Sept 24:

India’s Naorem Roshibina Devi settled for a silver medal in the women’s Sanda 60kg event at the Asian Games after losing to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the final.

Zhang produced a dominant performance in the gold-medal bout, winning 2-0 after taking both rounds 5-0. Roshibina struggled to make a comeback as the Chinese fighter maintained control throughout the contest.

India also made a strong start to their athletics campaign. The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team finished second in its heat to qualify for the final. India led for most of the race before China overtook them on the final lap, with Kiran unable to hold off the Chinese runner.

The developments came a day after India experienced contrasting fortunes in other disciplines. Mirabai Chanu won silver in weightlifting, ending a 28-year wait for India for an Asian Games medal in the sport yesterday.

Meanwhile, Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol event and missed out on a medal. Her campaign at the shooting range ended without a podium finish.
