Shimla : Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday directed the health department to allow job trainee doctors to pursue postgraduate and super-speciality courses , saying the move would help strengthen healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh .

Sukhu said the duration and amount of bonds would be enhanced to ensure doctors return to the state after completing their courses.

Chairing a review meeting of the health department, Sukhu directed govt medical colleges to digitise data on MRI, CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound examinations by Oct 20.

He also ordered them to submit department-wise requirements of nurses and technicians to expedite recruitment.

An expert committee will identify two to four departments in each govt medical college, including AIMSS Chamiana , for development as Centres of Excellence. The govt also plans overseas exposure visits for medical students, Sukhu added.
