Bathinda : Punjab has recorded 88 stubble-burning cases so far this season, accounting for 30.6% of the 287 farm fires reported across seven states till Oct 6, even as Madhya Pradesh crossed the 100-mark with 118 cases.
Punjab reported four fresh farm fires on Tuesday, taking its tally to 88. Amritsar has recorded the highest number of cases among all seven states, with 50 fires so far. In Punjab, stubble burning has been reported from 11 districts.
With farm fires picking up, authorities have also begun penal action. One FIR has been registered in Patiala under Section 223 of the BNS for disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant. Environmental compensation of Rs 1.40 lakh has been imposed in 28 cases, of which Rs 45,000 has been recovered. Red entries have been made in land records in 13 cases, while warning/show-cause notices have been issued to 36 nodal and supervisory officers.
Madhya Pradesh reported 24 of the 33 cases recorded across four states on Tuesday, taking its season tally to 118. Uttar Pradesh has recorded 65 cases, followed by Rajasthan with 10, Haryana with four, and Delhi and Uttarakhand with one each.
Uttarakhand has emerged as the seventh state reporting stubble burning this season. Stubble burning had earlier been reported from six states.
