The summer heat is always welcome, especially after a long chilly winter, but with British homes designed specifically to keep heat in, the summer months are often spent trying to keep our rooms cool and comfortable. There’s nothing worse than the intense stuffy heat that occurs when it’s hot outside, and sometimes no matter how many windows you open, cool air just never materialises.

A fan is of course the best solution to this, and last year I invested in Dyson’s to help cool down my house and filter out thinks like pollen, which can make worse. However this year I was looking for an extra fan to use in my bedroom, and came across the , which promises many of the same things as my Dyson but came in at over £500 cheaper. Naturally, I had to put it to the test to see if it compared.

Whilst Dyson’s Hot and Cool Purifier is usually priced at £699.99, it’s currently on sale for £549.99, saving you £150. Meanwhile the is usually priced at £249.99, but is currently on sale at Amazon down to £189.05, not only saving you £60 on its usual price, but also a massive saving of £360 compared to Dyson’s sale price, and £511 compared to the usual full price of the Dyson.

Just like my Dyson, the promises to cool down the air in a room whilst also purifying it, removing 99% of particles from the air in your home, and has an ioniser that sterilises the air so that you can breathe easier. The first major difference, however, is that the Dyson also has the option of switching to heating, making it usable all year round, whilst the Midea one only offers a cooling option.

However, this isn’t the end of the (although it does account for some of the price difference), as cooling was exactly what I needed in my home. The Midea one is also much taller, measuring 42” compared to Dyson’s 32” height, which made it ideal for use in the bedroom as the cool air reached higher up and over the bed to keep me cool at night.

The biggest difference between the two is that the Midea one doesn’t have an app to run alongside it. My lets you control it either via remote or from your phone, and gives you readings on what pollutants are in the air, as well as having a built in thermostats which can save you up to 30% in running costs.

However, if you’re less bothered about the data, the is a great alternative. It also comes with a remote, and has a timer setting so you can run it while you sleep and it’ll shut off automatically after a certain amount of time.

The airflow is also super powerful, and cooled down my room considerably in under 5 minutes, with 12 fan speeds and four different modes to choose from. You can pick between day, sleep, baby and SmartWind, which automatically adjusts, and it was definitely quiet enough to sleep through, even when on the highest setting.

Whilst I love my , there’s no denying that if you’re looking to save some big money and want something simple, easy and efficient to run, then the is a must-buy for the summer. If you want to save even more money, the is now on sale at Debenhams down from £149.99 to £94.99 and comes with a high 4.8 star rating.

The Midea fan, meanwhile, currently has a 4.6 star rating on Amazon, with shoppers praising how quiet and inexpensive it is to run. One said: “We bought this when it was reduced in price and wish we’d bought 2 . Unlike our dys*n it has temp control and you can adjust the rotation angle. It really is good and powerful . Not too noisy so doesn’t interrupt sleep , the adjustable range means you can angle it off the head end of the bed if that would keep you awake. It is quite large but is aesthetically pleasing so we don’t have a problem with it at all.”

Whilst another agreed: “This fan is amazing, it's quiet, inexpensive to run and I love the remote control station too. At almost 1/3 of the price of the original bladeless fan, it is in my opinion far superior. I have used the other very well known brand and in comparison, this one wins - hands down!”

One snag is the filter replacements, with one shopper writing: “Why sale them when you can’t even buy replacement filters can’t use mine anymore as it smells.”
