BSNL: Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has achieved a large milestone by breaking the deficit streak. In the January-March quarter of FY 2024-25, the company recorded a net profit of ₹ 280 crore. This is also historic because BSNL suffered a huge loss of ₹ 849 crore in the same quarter last year.
While sharing information about this financial progress, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that this is only the second time since 2007 when BSNL has made profits in a quarter. Earlier, in the quarter of October-December 2024, the company had a profit of ₹ 262 crore.
In the entire financial year 2024-25, the net loss of BSNL has come down to ₹ 2,247 crore, while in FY 2023-24 the figure was ₹ 5,370 crore.
The company’s operational revenue increased by 7.8% to ₹ 20,841 crore, which was ₹ 19,330 crore last year. At the same time, the total revenue saw a jump of 10% and it increased to ₹ 23,400 crore – which is the largest annual revenue ever.
BSNL has so far activated 93,450 4G towers and the process of syncing all towers is going on. According to Scindia, the company will get further benefits in the coming months in the 4G network.
Apart from this, the company has also jumped into asset montization – FY25 recorded an increase of 77% and it reached ₹ 1,120 crore.
This financial recovery of BSNL not only reinforces the possibilities in government companies, but also proves that strategic reforms, digital expansion and better use of resources can also lead to deficit companies. BSNL is now ready to play a more active role towards 5G and Digital India Mission.
