Disney has made a surprising announcement that Marvel Studios has potentially added a fourth movie to its 2028 lineup. This would be in addition to its already scheduled releases in February, May, and November of 2028. The untitled film, as confirmed by Variety, is set to be released on December 15, 2028.

Marvel's plan for a fourth release in 2028
According to Variety, Disney has a "history of holding onto release dates for feature projects well past when those films could realistically make those dates to ensure they remain available for other films from the company." The report provided examples such as
Blade being removed from its November 2025 release date when Disney was prepared to replace it with the 20th Century Studios film
Predator: Badlands in the schedule.
While Marvel's four movie plan is currently uncertain and tentative, if it does proceed with four movies in 2028, it would somewhat contradict what Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned earlier. Bob acknowledged that Marvel "lost a little focus by making too much."
Disney CEO's view on Marvel "making too much"
During an investor call in May, Bob stated, "We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more. We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality."
Marvel's Infinity Saga and ongoing Multiverse Saga
Marvel has been underperforming since the conclusion of
Avengers: Endgame and the completion of its Infinity Saga. We are currently in its Multiverse Saga, and its Phase 5 is regarded as MUC's worst performing era.
