Tiruppur: A newlywed woman in Tamil Nadu died by suicide on Sunday, June 29, after sustained mental and physical torture over alleged dowry demands by her husband and in-laws.

The deceased, 27-year-old Ridhanya, had married Kavinkumar, 28, just three months ago in April. Her family had reportedly given a Volvo car worth Rs 70 lakh and 800 grams of gold jewellery as dowry.

According to the police, Ridhanya consumed fumigant pesticide tablets inside her car near a temple in Mondipalayam. Locals who noticed the car parked for a long time alerted the authorities. When police arrived, they found her unresponsive with foam at her mouth. Her body was sent to the District Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Voice Notes Reveal Trauma

A few hours before her death, Ridhanya reportedly sent seven WhasApp voice notes to her father. In the audio clips, she apologised repeatedly and spoke of unbearable abuse at the hands of her husband and in-laws.

“I’m unable to bear their mental torture daily… Those who listen want me to compromise, claiming life will be like this only,” she said, as quoted by India Today. She also mentioned that people around her dismissed her suffering and that she no longer wanted to be a burden.

“I did not make any mistake. They are assaulting me mentally while he is torturing me physically… I don’t like this life. I’m unable to continue my life,” she added.

Case Registered, Three Arrested

The police have registered a case and arrested her husband Kavin Kumar, father-in-law Eswaramoorthy, and mother-in-law Chithradevi. Further investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Ridhanya’s grieving relatives reportedly gathered outside the hospital, demanding justice for her. Her father, a garment company owner, has handed over the voice messages to authorities as evidence.
