Lord’s Cricket Ground, famously known as the "Home of Cricket," has hosted over 140 Test matches since its first in 1884. Despite its rich history, successful fourth-innings run chases at this iconic venue have been rare. In fact, only four teams have ever managed to chase down a target of over 250 runs here.

West Indies pulled off one of the greatest run chases in Test cricket by scoring 344 for the loss of just one wicket. The highlight of this remarkable performance was Gordon Greenidge’s unbeaten 214, aided by Larry Gomes, who scored 92*. This dominant display handed the visitors a nine-wicket win.

England successfully chased down 282 runs against New Zealand with Nasser Hussain playing the anchor role. His unbeaten 103 was supported by solid knocks from Andrew Strauss and Graham Thorpe, guiding England to a comfortable seven-wicket win.

In the World Test Championship Final 2025, South Africa chased 282 against Australia. Aiden Markram's magnificent 136 was central to the Proteas' triumph as they clinched their first WTC title in historic fashion.

England chased 279 with ease in 2022, thanks to Joe Root’s sensational unbeaten century. His controlled knock sealed a five-wicket victory and a memorable home win for the English side.

Back in 1965, England chased down a target of 216 runs, losing just three wickets. Geoff Boycott and Ted Dexter contributed half-centuries, helping England register a confident win over the Kiwis.

India’s Highest Chase at Lord’s

India’s best chase at Lord’s came in 1986 when they scored 136/5. Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri played crucial roles in securing this rare fourth-innings win at the ground for India.

In total, out of 147 Tests played at Lord’s, only 40 have seen successful fourth-innings run chases. With such numbers, even a 200+ chase at this venue is considered a historic feat — underlining just how tough Lord’s can be in the final innings of a match.
